The 65th anniversary of Blachownia Power Plant
When performing work duties, employees who were in the vicinity of the process tanks noticed a simulated acid leakage from a tank discharge valve. Damage to the valve was so severe that it made it impossible for the plant personnel to take actions. Since there were no technical measures which could enable sealing of the valve, and a cloud of poisonous gases appeared, the Maintenance Engineer on Duty was informed about the accident. After identifying the hazard, the Maintenance Engineer on Duty ordered an immediate evacuation of employees from the plant production halls. Dispatch Office of the Company Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team of Blachownia Generation Plant was notified by phone. Fire-fighting and chemical rescue vehicles of the Company Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team were sent to the place of the accident. The Maintenance Engineer on Duty instructed to pump the substance into an emergency tank, and the rescue services along with the plant employees proceeded to replace the damaged valve. As a result of the accident, an employee of the Blachownia Generation Plant and a rescuer of the Company Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team suffered simulated poisoning. The Commander of the Company Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team ordered to evacuate the injured to a safe place. The injured were provided with first aid. As a result of actions taken, the failure was removed and the leaked acid and toxic gases were neutralised. Once the Company Fire-Fighting and Rescue Team had completed the operations, the Maintenance Engineer on Duty decided that the employees may return to work. Normal operation of the Water Demineralisation Plant of the Blachownia Generation Plant was restored.
