On October 19, 2018 an acid tank leakage simulation was performed in the Chemical Water Treatment Plant in Generation Plant Nowa. Employees, who were working close to technological tanks, detected acid leakage. The leakage was too big to be handled by employees of the affected department. Due to the extent of the emergency and the resulting toxic gas cloud, a decision was made to evacuate employees of the department and other companies. A call was made to the Emergency Center at ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. in Dąbrowa Górnicza. AMP fire trucks and chemical rescue units were rushed to the scene. As lives were threatened, an ambulance was also dispatched. As a result of the effort made by the rescue services and plant employees, the leakage was stopped, the escaped acid and the toxic gas cloud were neutralized. Normal operation of the Chemical Water Treatment Plant was restored.
